What is SNS used for in AWS? Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS) is a web service that makes it easy to set up, operate, and send notifications from the cloud.
This article will guide you to enable SNS notifications with email endpoint
This article has two subsections
- Setting up SNS notifications with email endpoints
- Publishing messages to a topic
Step 1: Setting up SNS notifications with email endpoint
- Go to the Amazon console
- Search for Simple Notification Service in the search bar
- Provide a topic name, and then click on the Next step button
- In the next page, do not make any changes in the default configurations for the rest of the options, and then click on the Create topic button
- You will get a message saying that the topic has been created successfully as shown in the following screenshot:
- Go to the subscription dashboard and click on the Create subscription button
- Choose Email from the dropdown options in the Protocol field
- In the endpoint field, provide the email address where you wish to send the SNS notifications
- Do not make any changes in the default configurations for the rest of the options, and then click on the Create subscription button
- You will get a message saying that the subscription has been created successfully as shown in the following screenshot:
- Go to the email address provided in the subscription to verify the SNS email and confirm the subscription
- The status of the subscription in the dashboard will change from pending to confirmed.

Step 2: Publishing messages to a topic
- Select the topic from the dashboard and click on the publish message button
- In message details, fill in the subject for the message
- Provide the message body and click on the Publish message button
- You will get a message saying that the message has been published successfully as shown in the following screenshot:
- Go to the email address provided in the subscription to verify the published message
